When you feel out of wack and life gets chaotic, stressful and you start feeling that the burden of life and responsibilities of this world are weighing you down I would encourage you to center yourself.
The first time I told someone that I was on an airplane headed to Dallas to buy a car and the older man seated next to me started telling me his whole life story and problems till I couldn’t take on any more of his negative energy.
So I simply asked him what is he doing to center himself. “What kind of hippy talk is that” he spewed back. I then went on to explain to him that in times of crisis and weakness Jesus would often sneak away from his disciples and people to get quiet with God and pray. Regardless of what your beliefs are Jesus is a pretty neat guy and I think anything he did and said is pretty important. Now I am not trying to say I am perfect or that I am just like Jesus but if someone with that much pressure and turmoil felt it was important to get alone and quiet I always thought that was something wise we should do too.
As a person of science I think there is more to just getting alone that we as humans need. Without getting into to much detail or going to far down a rabbit hole I will just say I believe the following: we along with all things are made up of atoms and energy. Those atoms and energy give off frequencies which cause waves. When those frequencies are interrupted by other atoms and energies that don’t align with us fractures in our reality start to take place. Fractures occur in many forms but we take them on everyday as stress.
So how do you keep yourself in alignment or as I refer to as centered? You can do it several different ways but there are four keys take to center yourself.
The first key is diet. Keeping your alkalinity balanced, with a minimal consumption of processed foods. That means eating everything in proportion to your needs. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables with a portion of meat. I am not against having small treats here and there but don’t binge on takeout or snack cakes. Along with a balanced diet is drink water! I don’t know what is the right amount for you, but I have at least four large water bottles a day along with mixing in various glasses of tea or lemonade. Again if you have a soda or glass of wine, no worries just don’t overindulge and be sure and drink the water on top of that during the day.
The second key is exercise. Everyone knows they should exercise but I don’t think people understand how much our bodies really do need it to stay healthy and centered. Get moving! I don’t know what the limits are on your your body but you need to be active and find something to get your heart rate up. Do not let the excuses of I don’t have time or there isn’t a gym close to me or I don’t have money to attend a gym or classes. Exercise is free. Go out and walk or jog or run or bicycle. Get on the internet and search for free work out videos! Go to the library and check out the free workout videos there. There are many cheap ways and resources to use to help you exercise. So no excuses on this! For myself I like to do the treadmill or elliptical for 10 min then lift weights for 15 then interchange the two for 10-15 min giving me a total workout daily of 35-40 min. You have to make it happen. Trust me you will never have time to work out. You have to make time. Make it a priority. You have to learn to make yourself and your health a priority.
The third key is rest. This by far has always been the hardest for me to overcome. Mostly because I have a hard time sleeping. There is just so much I want to do and accomplish and learn that I forget that sleeping is just as important as being active. You need to sleep. I don’t know what amount of sleep is best for you. Dr’s will say people need 8 hours of sleep a night. I am not so sure. Some people operate on 6 hrs and feel great some people need 9. Each person has to listen to their body and really experiment with different amounts of sleep until they find the amount that fits their needs. However, sleep can also be used negatively. If you find yourself sleeping in excess, or if you feel you want to sleep all the time that is also a sign of possible health problems and depression. If you find that is you, you need to address that with a health professional. So be aware of yourself. A good way to gage yourself is by how you react to the world on different amounts of sleep. If you are irritable or grouchy I would say maybe try a bit more sleep until you find that balance where you feel good and rested.
The fourth key is recharge in nature. In my previous post I mentioned that energies around you can cause you to get out of alignment. There is a lot more to that but the short version is you need to get your energy back in alignment and the way to do that is by using the atoms and energies found in nature. So go outside. If it is warm, take your shoes off and stand in the grass. This is what is often called grounding yourself. Go out and be around trees, and grass and plants. Breath in the goodness they bless us with. My favorite place to go is the beach. I love to put my feet in the sand and stand in the sun and feel the energy of the ocean hitting the shore. There truly is science in how the ions are released from the ocean as the water hits the shore and helps recharge us. Hence, all the salt lamps that have been around for years. Right now it is hard for me to get to the beach, so I am eagerly awaiting the women’s retreat coming up this summer so I can recharge at the ocean. I understand that is not something everyone can do everyday.
Whereever it is you can go to be out in nature go stand in the sun and focus on your breathing. Close your eyes and remind yourself how blessed you are, speak those things outloud. Tell yourself today is a good day and be grateful for the things and opportunities you have. Be grateful for the people that are in your life that bring light to you and the people and opportunities that are going to come into your life. Speak those things outloud to yourself. Proclaim those things over yourself and your life. The universe will reflect back to you the energy and declarations you proclaim.
Once you learn to master these four key elements you will start to feel yourself become centered. Sometimes things will come up and life will smack you between the eyes. That is normal. Life can be hard and cruel but I have found that if you can refocus your energy in those chaotic moments; Take a drink of water, breath deep, close your eyes, speak blessings over yourself. That those moments of chaos slow down, and your spirit is then able to handle and meet those challenges without feeling frazzled, or overwhelmed.
It takes practice. It takes training. You have to train your mind and condition your body so you are strong inside and out.
